The British company British Airways and the leading Indian airline Indigo have signed a codeshare agreement to strengthen connections between the UK and India.
Thanks to this partnership, which allows British Airways to add their code to a range of destinations on the IndiGo network, customers can enjoy enhanced connectivity between‘South East Asia and Europe for their travel from October 12, 2023. A total of eight Indian destinations are now available on codeshare for travel from London-Heathrow via New Delhi Or Mumbai : Amritsar via New Delhi, Kochi via Mumbai, Ahmedabad via Mumbai, Goa via Mumbai, Calcutta via Mumbai, Calcutta via Mumbai, including three new destinations which were not previously accessible to British Airways customers: Thiruvananthapuram via Mumbai, Rajkot via Mumbai and Vadodara via Mumbai.
The deal means that British Airways customers traveling, for example, from Rajkot to London, or transiting through Heathrow (or vice versa), will be able to connect to their destination with a single ticket. IndiGo operates an extensive national and regional network with a fleet ofA320 aircraft. All British Airways customers traveling with IndiGo will be able to enjoy a free meal and baggage allowance from the UK carrier in economy class via codeshare for flights to India (two checked bags up to 23 kilos per person). “British Airways has been serving India since 1924, making it one of our oldest and most popular destinations. Our partnership with IndiGo means that customers will be able to book their entire journey on one ticket, enabling a seamless journey from London to their final destination, providing more choice and flexibility for customers.”commented Neil Chernoff, director of network and alliances at British Airways in a press release.
The number of British Airways flights between India and London now exceeds pre-pandemic levels, with the airline operating 56 flights per week to five entrance doors Indian: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru And Hyderabad.
IndiGo is already in code sharing with Virgin Atlanticoffering customers of the British airline flights from London-Heathrow to Delhi and Mumbai, then connections to seven other Indian cities (Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Amritsar and Goa).
