Berlin-Brandenburg: summer traffic still lower than summer 2019

Approximately 2.2 million passengers traveled viaBerlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) in August 2023traffic still much lower than that of the old airports Tegel and Schönefeld in 2019.

Last month, around 2.2 million passengers passed through the Willy-Brandt Berlin-Brandenburg hub, the same number of passengers as the previous month of July, and 300,000 more than in August. 2022 (1.9 million passengers). In August 2019, before the health crisisaround 3.2 million passengers used the former Tegel and Schönefeld airports in the German federal capital.

A total of 14.9 million passengers passed through BER in the first eight months of this year. Last year, this figure for the same period was slightly lower at 12.6 million.

In August, around 16,100 planes took off and landed in Berlin-Brandenburg, almost the same number as in July 2023. For comparison, there were 14,764 plane movements in August 2022 and around 25,000 in August 2019 A total of 3,040 tonnes of air cargo were handled at BER over the past month. In August 2022, this figure was 2,628 tonnes and 3,092 tonnes in 2019.
