Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi: upcoming opening of the new SAT-1 terminal

SAT-1 is designed to accommodate 15 million passengers per year, adding 33% capacity to Suvarnabhumi, allowing it to accommodate a total of up to 60 million passengers per year. The new terminal includes 28 gangways, including eight compatible with Code F superjumbos (A380 and B747) and 20 compatible with Code E wide-bodies (A330, B777, B787).

The four-story terminal offers a total area of ​​216,000m², with two floors housing the Automated People Mover (APM) train system. The APM will connect SAT-1 to the existing main terminal. With a maximum speed of 80 km/h, the APM will be able to accommodate 210 passengers per train, allowing the transport of around 6,000 passengers per hour, with each journey taking just three minutes.

Initially, from September 28 to October 28, 2023, SAT-1 will accommodate only three airlines: Thai AirAsia, Thai VietJet and Emiratescharged in some way with “test” in real operations the new infrastructures. Other airlines will join SAT-1, which will then become fully operational by December 2023, in a bid to ease congestion at the Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi main terminal.
