Bangkok Airways will weigh its passengers, including their hand luggageat the boarding gate, from September 15 to October 31, 2023.
“In accordance with Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) regulations regarding the use of standard passenger and baggage weights for weight and balance calculation purposes, carrying out a survey of standard weights is essential to the safety and efficiency of a flight to determine that the actual weight does not exceed the maximum take-off weight limit“, explained the Thai airline whose the base is in Koh Samuithe largest island and the most frequented by tourists in the Gulf of Siam.
“Information will be kept confidential and will be used to update records as required by CAAT“, reassured Bangkok Airways. Periodically, national civil aviation regulators ask airlines to update the body mass of their passengers for safety purposes.
In the United States, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) therefore asks American airlines to weigh their passengers every 36 months. To do this, they are authorized to carry out weighings of passengers selected at random from the boarding queues and on a voluntary basis, until obtaining the body mass of at least 15% of the passengers. In Thailand, all Bangkok Airways passengers will be weighed, without the possibility of refusal, over a period of six weeks.
