After a series of accidents, some of them fatal, involving tourists, authorities in Bali yesterday announced a ban on foreign visitors riding on a rental motorbike or scooter when traveling around the island.
Wayan Koster, the island’s governor, told local media that tourists must now travel in vehicles checked and provided by tour operators or travel agencies.

It is unclear how and when the ban will be enforced and it has only been specified that it will be this year, possibly changing a usual scene in Bali, where tourists often rent motorbikes on their own to speed up travel, given heavy traffic and narrow roads.
