In Palma, in the Balearic Islands, a 4-star hotel is playing the ecological card with measures focused on sustainable tourism.
In the heart of the capital of Majorca, but outside the tourist district, the Majorcan chain HM recently opened its latest urban hotel: the Palma Blanc.
For the record, this Majorcan group currently has 23 hotels: 14 in Majorca, 5 in the Dominican Republic, 3 in Mexico and 1 in Tenerife.
On the site of the former Firestone tire building, located a 15-minute walk from the cathedral, one of the greatest architectural jewels of the Mediterranean and the sea, stands an establishment with innovative and avant-garde architecture. guard. Designed in white aluminum, the facade of this street corner hotel reminds me of the concrete mesh favored by architect Rudy Ricciotti.
As soon as you enter the lobby of this 4-star hotel, the refined style is evident. Plant walls frame the elevators leading to the 116 rooms: basic, superior, more spacious junior suites and a few rare suites. Everywhere the local interior designer, Antonia María Horrach Moyà, from studio AM29, has decided to use only traditional Majorcan materials: wood for the furniture, granite for the sinks, local fabrics to cover the walls. , ceilings and even wall lighting. And of course, the famous terrazzocomposed of stone fragments, colored marble and polished cement, for its glittery mineral appearance on the floor, including in the rooms.
Business trips or vacations
Another strong point of this urban hotel dedicated to leisure and business customers: the interior patio with a pleasant garden area. This green haven extends a modular conference room with 70 seats and a VIP cinema room with 30 seats.
For relaxation, the Palma Blanc has a gym, and a penthouse terrace with swimming pool and Sky bar.
In the first basement, the SPA includes treatment rooms, a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a Turkish bath and a sauna.
At breakfast, all you have to do is choose the fruit and we will prepare a fresh smoothie for you. Wide choice of milks offered in glass bottles. No doubt, this establishment is on the hunt for packaging.
On the top floor of the hotel, there is an urban garden with vegetables and aromatic plants. To supplement this limited production, the chef sources his supplies from local producers. And establishes his menu of starters and dishes day by day. The priority of this “Kilomètre O” restaurant: to highlight seasonal vegetables and the finest fruits of the moment.
As Mallorca’s climate is warm and pleasant for much of the year, solar panels on the roof save energy. Gentle traffic requires, charging stations for electric cars are installed in the 120-space garage.
To water the green walls and the plants on its vast patio, the hotel reuses its wastewater. An effective solution to limit the shortage and preserve this precious natural resource. As for the rooms, they are all equipped with a classic electric air conditioning system. And above all, a ceiling fan with blades, more ecological.
With its slogan “We are all protagonists of change”, the integral program “the Planet by HM Hotels” involves all the staff of the establishment. And even its customers so that they too become players in environmental responsibility during their stay.
