The Balearic government has set a maximum number of tourists per year, amounting to 16.5 million.
According to the executive of the islands chaired by Francina Armengol, the Balearics cannot absorb a figure higher than that indicated. While the head of tourism, Iago Negueruela, said quality must prevail over quantity and his opinion is supported by the whole sector.

Negueruela explained that the number of beds in hotels should be reduced urgently to avoid saturation. To support this decision, the islands’ government says it has developed a strategy to increase quality and reduce the arrival of travelers in high season. A strategy which therefore intends to reward the seasonal adjustment of tourist flows.
