“Over the past year, Ms. Duncombe has provided strong leadership to the senior management team at the Department of Tourism, Investment and Aviation,” said Deputy Premier Cooper. She made a smooth transition from the private sector to the public service, using her vast knowledge and experience to become an outstanding leader within the Tourism team. She came at a critical time as we embarked on the recovery of tourism, and she worked tirelessly to achieve the goal of getting our industry back on track. »
Ms. Duncombe is the seventh person appointed to this management position at the Ministry of Tourism for 54 years and the third woman to be as technical director.
Responding to the appointment, Latia Duncombe said, “It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to lead the primary economic engine of the Bahamas. Tourism is a fascinating industry that impacts the lives of all people and guarantees the socio-economic stability of the Bahamas. »
She added, “Our strong performance last year is proof that growth and expansion is achievable, given our country’s strengths and the resilience of our people. We have excelled not only in numbers, but also in revenue. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the past leadership and team at the Ministry of Tourism, all of whom played a leading role in directing, supporting and facilitating the Bahamas’ main source of revenue. It has been an honor to be able to serve my country. »
The appointment of Latia Duncombe as Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, Investment and Aviation took effect on January 16, 2023.
