Austria: one year of free transport in exchange for a tattoo…

A free annual pass for all transport in Austria offered to those who get a tattoo of the words “KlimaTicket”, the name of the single ticket that allows use of public transport services) or another symbol of the fight against climate change. This is the idea launched a few weeks ago by the Austrian government to encourage sustainable mobility.

The idea was launched a few weeks ago by the Austrian Minister for Climate and Energy during the electronic music festival Frequency which took place in St Pölten. Since then, various events have been organized for young people to promote this initiative which, unsurprisingly, bears the slogan “A promotion that remains engraved in the skin”.

The formula KlimaTicket usually costs 1,095 euros and, at present, only nine people would have received the free annual ticket because they chose to get tattoos.
