Bahamasair is launching non-stop service on May 1 between Grand Bahama Island and Richmond in Virginia, Louisville in Kentucky, Raleigh-Durham in North Carolina and Baltimore/Washington International Airport in Maryland.

The flights to Grand Bahama International Airport (IATA code FPO) will be operated for Bahamasair by U.S. charter and supplemental carrier Xtra Airways with Boeing 737-400s, each configured with 138 economy seats and 12 first-class seats.

Bahamasair’s twice-weekly flights on the four routes will be in place of the services previously operated by Vision Airlines from the four U.S. cities to Grand Bahama Island.

U.S. charter and supplemental carrier Xtra Airways operates a fleet of four Boeing 737-400s, each configured with 138 economy seats and 12 first-class seats. The carrier also operates a Boeing 737-800 leased on a seasonal basis

Located 55 miles east of South Florida, Grand Bahama Island is home to a variety of resorts that fit every budget and are located among miles of beaches. Travelers to Grand Bahama Island can now get more bang for their buck with a variety of instant savings offers. Topping the list is a $400 instant savings offer for visitors booking a six-night stay or longer.

Those opting for a shorter getaway can stay three to five nights and receive $250 in savings. Offers are valid on air-inclusive vacation packages at participating hotels for travel booked through May 14 and completed by October 31, 2012.

Bahamasair will operate its schedule between Richmond International Airport (RIC) and Grand Bahama on Mondays and Fridays. The flight is timed to depart FPO at 8:00 a.m. and the return flight is scheduled to leave RIC at 11:00 a..m.

The Bahamian flag carrier will also operate its service between Grand Bahama and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) on Mondays and Fridays. The flight is timed to leave FPO at 4:05 p.m. and the return flight is scheduled to push back from the gate at RDU at 7:00 p.m.

Bahamasair’s schedule between Grand Bahama and Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) will operate on Thursdays and Sundays, as will its service between FPO and Louisville International Airport (SDF).

The outbound flight to BWI is timed to leave FPO at 8:00 a.m. and the return sector is scheduled to depart BWI at 11:15 a.m. Bahamasair’s outbound flight to Louisville is scheduled to begin taxiing at FPO at 2:25 p.m. and the return flight is timed to push back from the gate at SDF at 5:30 p.m. local time.

Grand Bahama International Airport offers visitors the benefit of pre-clearance through U.S. Customs and Immigration. Additionally, The Bahamian dollar is on par with the U.S. currency and the U.S. dollar is accepted throughout The Bahamas.
