Spirit Airlines is launching service to three additional cities from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport this summer, bringing the number of destinations it serves from the airport to 14 and introducing service to its first international destination from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

On June 21, Fort Lauderdale-based Spirit Airlines is launching non-stop daily service from Dallas/Fort Worth to Toluca (just outside Mexico City and the home base of Volaris, Mexico’s fastest-growing low-cost airline), Detroit and San Diego. Spirit is selling low introductory fares on the routes on April 3 and April 4.

Spirit Airlines started service from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on May 5, 2011, with non-stop service to Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas, followed by Chicago. The airline also now offers non-stop service to Atlanta, Boston, New York LaGuardia, Orlando and Phoenix/Mesa.

On May 3, Spirit starts daily service from DFW to Denver and three-times-weekly flights to Myrtle Beach, and on May 4, the airline begins four-times-weekly flights to Tampa.

Spirit Airlines operates an all-Airbus A320 family fleet which includes 26 A319s and (including existing orders) up to 70 A320s. Spirit Airlines also has 45 A320neo-family jets on order. Two leased A321s are expected to leave the fleet

“As we approach our one-year anniversary at DFW, we are proud to liberate even more customers from high fares and continue to grow the number of cities we serve from the Metroplex,” says Barry Biffle, Spirit Airlines’ executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

“Spirit Airlines is clearly gaining a lot of traction in the Dallas/Fort Worth market, with new flights to San Diego, Detroit and Toluca, Mexico,” says Jeff Fegan, CEO of DFW International Airport. “We are very encouraged by Spirit’s growth and their entry into Mexico, which means more great travel options for our passengers.”

From June 21, subject to Spirit Airlines receiving approval from the Mexican government for the service, the carrier’s schedule for its Dallas/Fort Worth-Toluca service will see Spirit Airlines’ flight NK161 depart DFW daily at 11:20 p.m. and land at Toluca’s Licenciado Adolfo López Mateos International Airport (TLC) at 1:45 a.m. the following morning, local time.

In the other direction, flight NK162 is timed to leave TLC at 3:20 a.m. (beginning on June 22) and touch down at DFW at 6:00 a.m. local time.

Spirit Airlines’ schedule for its Dallas/Fort Worth-Detroit service calls for flight NK734 to push back from the gate at DFW daily from June 21 at 4:00 p.m. and reach Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) at 7:40 p.m. local time. In the other direction, Spirit’s flight NK313 is timed to begin taxiing at DTW at 8:30 p.m., in order to arrive at DFW at 10:15 p.m. local time.

Also from June 21, Spirit’s Dallas/Fort Worth-San Diego service calls for flight NK107 to depart DFW at 2:45 p.m. and to get to San Diego International Airport (SAN) at 3:35 p.m. local time. In the other direction, flight NK108 is timed to push back from the gate at SAN at 4:25 p.m. and to touch down at DFW at 9:30 p.m. local time.
