Canadian regional carrier Porter Airlines is launching service between Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport near downtown Toronto and Washington Dulles International Airport on April 16.
Washington Dulles International Airport (IATA code IAD) will be the Canadian carrier’s sixth U.S. destination. Porter Airlines already serves Boston Logan, Chicago Midway, Newark Liberty year-round and Burlington in Vermont and South Carolina resort destination Myrtle Beach on a seasonal basis.
Porter Airlines will operate three round-trip flights a day between Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) and Dulles on weekdays and a lesser schedule on weekends. The airline operates all its flights with Bombardier Q400 or Q400 NextGen fast turboprop regional airliners.

Porter Airlines' main hub at Toronto Billy Bishop City Airport is extremely close to downtown Toronto. The airport lies on Toronto Island, just 100 yards offshore in Lake Ontario, and can be reached from the mainland by a frequently operating passenger and car ferry or (soon) by a passenger tunnel
“Greater Washington is a region that our passengers have told us is their number one priority for new Porter service,” says Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines. “We expect great interest for both business and leisure trips and look forward to bringing competition to the route.”
Porter is known for its exceptional customer service and for offering a premium experience at economy-class prices. Lounge access in select airports, coffee bars, wine and beer onboard, and extra legroom are complimentary for all passengers.
The carrier’s entire domestic and international boarding areas at YTZ, its main hub, are effectively very large premium-class lounges, though nowadays a sister company of Porter (which owns the terminal at YTZ) leases space in them to other carriers which have recently begun serving the airport.
“We are looking forward to welcoming Porter Airlines to our family of airlines providing extensive international service to the Greater Washington Metropolitan Region,” says Jack Potter, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. “Porter will provide new convenient service to downtown Toronto and throughout Canada for our region.
Adds Potter: “Dulles International Airport is the international gateway not only to Washington, but also to a significant part of the eastern seaboard, and this new air service from this leading Canadian business destination will be a great addition.”
Toronto City Airport is among the most convenient urban airports in the world. Its proximity to downtown Toronto makes accessing the city simple and convenient.
Porter Airlines’ weekday schedule from Toronto City Airport to Dulles will see its flights departing YTZ at 7:00 a.m., 1:55 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. In the other direction, Porter Airlines’ flights will leave the gate at IAD at 9:15 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and 8:35 p.m.
