Lufthansa will launch its first-ever service to Panama on November 16, with its new lower-cost operation internally code-named ‘Jump’ operating the flights.
In order to help boost its new Panama City service’s commercial prospects, Lufthansa is expanding its codeshare partnership with the Panamanian airline Copa Airlines, a fellow member of the Star Alliance.
On November 16, Lufthansa will begin serving Panama City five times a week using Airbus A340-300 widebodies, each configured to seat 298 passengers (261 in Economy, 19 in Premium Economy and 18 in Business Class) for use by its leisure market-oriented ‘Jump’ operation.
As a result of the planned expansion of its existing codeshare agreement with Copa Airlines, Lufthansa passengers will be able to connect at Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport (IATA code PTY) to and from an additional 50 destinations in Central America, South America and the Caribbean served by Copa Airlines.
Lufthansa’s schedule for its new, year-round Frankfurt-Panama City service will see flight LH484 depart Frankfurt Airport (FRA) at 10:15 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays from November 16 and reach PTY at 4:40 p.m. local time, after a flight time of 12 hours and 25 minutes.
The great-circle distance between the two cities is 9,070 kilometers (4,897 nautical miles).
In the other direction, flight LH485 will leave PTY at 6:45 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays from November 16 and land at FRA at 11:35 a.m. the following morning, local time, after a flight time of 11 hours 20 minutes.
