Subject to receiving final authority from the Bahamas government, Fort Lauderdale-based air taxi operator Locair plans to launch scheduled passenger and cargo services from South Florida and St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport on Tampa Bay to the Out Islands of the Bahamas.
The carrier plans to use nine-seat and 19-seat, pressurized Fairchild SA-227AC Metro III turboprop regional airliners for the services.
Locair plans to link Fort Lauderdale to the islands of Abaco and Long Island, and St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport to the Abacos, the carrier saying it will thus be providing the only nonstop service between Tampa Bay and the Bahamas. Vallier adds: “Locair is also the only family- and pet-friendly airline serving the Bahamas, with discounted fares for children and abundant room for pets. Add to that our ability to carry over 2,000 pounds of luggage & cargo, [and] travelers can rest assured their bags will arrive with them in the Bahamas. All flights will be operated in our comfortable, pressurized U.S.-built Fairchild Metro III turboprops, with two pilots, offering the fastest flights to The Bahamas.”
