JetBlue Airways has begun twice-weekly service to La Romana, its fifth destination in the Dominican Republic and its 67th destination overall.

JetBlue Airways has begun twice-weekly service to La Romana, its fifth destination in the Dominican Republic and its 67th destination overall.

The carrier, which says it is the largest airline in the Dominican Republic in terms of capacity offered to and from the Caribbean nation, is operating flights between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and La Romana International Airport (LRM) on Wednesdays and Saturdays.


To mark the airline’s new destination, customers can book sale fares at www.jetblue.com/new through December 1 from $149 each way (plus government fees) for Wednesday travel from December 1 through February 15, 2012. The introductory fares are not available on flights between December 16 and January 4. Bookings must be made at least 14 days before travel.

“La Romana’s privileged location along the breathtaking Chavon River, the Caribbean Sea and some of the most geologically rich natural areas in the Dominican Republic make it an ideal spot for exploring nature among peaceful towns and upscale resorts,” says Magaly Toribio, vice minister of international promotion for the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism.

“The nearby resort community of Bayahibe is a visitor favorite with pristine beaches and nature tours including the Padre Nuestro Archeological Trail in the National Park of the East,” notes Toribio. “And you must not miss Altos de Chavon, a 16th century artists’ village; the area’s world-class golf courses; and the Cave of Wonders featuring ancient Taino Indian drawings that delight and mystify visitors.”

JetBlue Airways’ schedule between New York and La Romana Airport (which is just eight minutes’ drive from the large Casa de Campo resort development) will see its flight leaving JFK at 8:35 a.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays and landing at LRM at 1:32 p.m. local time. In the other direction ,the return flight is timed to depart LRM at 2:30 p.m. and to reach JFK at 5:33 p.m. local time.

The airline is operating its flights to La Romana with its Airbus A320 fleet.

In the Dominican Republic, JetBlue also serves Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Santiago and Santo Domingo from New York. The carrier also flies from Boston to Santo Domingo, Santiago and Punta Cana; and offers nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and San Juan to Santo Domingo.
