Alaska Airlines is launching daily service between San Diego and Kahului, Maui and its sister regional carrier Horizon Air is starting four-times-daily service between the Silicon Valley-area city of San Jose and Los Angeles.

Horizon Air’s new San Jose-Los Angeles service starts on August 23 and Alaska Airlines’ new San Diego-Maui service begins on October 1. Horizon Air will operate its new flights with Bombardier Q400 high-speed turboprops and Alaska Airlines will use Boeing 737NG equipment for its flights between San Diego and Kahului.

Alaska Airlines’ winter schedule will also operate daily seasonal service between San Diego and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico from November 12 to April 11. On November 12, also, the carrier will also begin seasonal flying between Portland, Oregon and Kona (on the Big Island of Hawaii) four times a week until April 9.

(The new Seattle-Kona flight will operate from November 11 to April 7, but the Kona-Seattle flight will operate from November 14 to April 10 ― the schedule perhaps being staggered in this manner in order to accommodate a minimum three-day vacation stay marketed by Alaska Airlines Vacations or other tour operators booking capacity on the flights.)

The new flights are in addition to a previously announced new daily service between Portland and Honolulu that Alaska Airlines is due to begin on September 20.
