Alaska Airlines launches its new non-stop service between San Diego and Kona, on Hawaii Island, on March 5.
Seattle-based Alaska Airlines is offering an introductory one-way fare of $199 for tickets purchased by March 9 for travel on Mondays and Thursdays between April 15 and June 6, 2015.
“We’re pleased to add Kona as the fourth Hawaiian island that Alaska serves from San Diego,” says John Kirby, the airline’s vice president of capacity planning.
In addition to Kona, Alaska Airlines also operates non-stop flights from San Diego International Airport to Honolulu, Kahului on Maui, and Lihue on the island of Kauai.
“At our peak this summer, Alaska will offer 27 flights a week to Hawaii from San Diego,” adds Kirby. “No other airline offers more service to Hawaii from San Diego, than Alaska.”
Alaska Airlines’ new San Diego-Kona service calls for the airline’s flight to leave San Diego International Airport (IATA code SAN) at 5:55 p.m. on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from March 5 and land at Kona International Airport at Keāhole (KOA) at 10:10 p.m. local time.
From March 9, the flights from San Diego depart one hour later because of the mainland United States’ switch to Daylight Savings Time.
In the other direction, Alaska Airlines’ flight from KOA is timed to leave at 9:00 a.m. on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from March 5 and touch down at SAN at 4:25 p.m. local time.
Again, from March 9 the flight from KOA will arrive at SAN an hour later, because of the switch to Daylight Savings Time on the U.S. mainland
