Likely future Southwest Airlines acquisition AirTran Airways is launching daily nonstop service from Tampa to Key West, as well as adding more flights on routes to sunspot destinations including Tampa, San Juan, Phoenix and Orlando.
AirTran Airways (which ultimately is expected to be merged into Southwest’s operating certificate upon its planned acquisition by the Dallas carrier, in a deal announced on September 27) is launching its Tampa-Key West service on March 10, 2011. The Tampa-Key West schedule is in addition to AirTran’s recently announced nonstop service between Tampa and San Juan, which begins on April 5, 2011.
“Key West is such a unique destination and, AirTran is pleased to offer the only jet service from Tampa, making it even more convenient, “says Tad Hutcheson, AirTran Airways’ vice president of marketing and sales. “Adding service to these popular destinations is an important part of our goal to provide the best service possible to places our customers want to go at a great value.”
The airline’s Tampa Key West schedule will see AirTran’s flight FL521 departing Tampa International Airport (TPA) at 12:14 p.m. and arriving at Key West International Airport (EYW) at 1:19 p.m. In the other direction, flight FL122 is timed to leave EYW at 12:59 p.m. and reach TPA at 2:04 p.m.
From December 13, 2010, AirTran will add two daily flights between Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) and Phoenix International Airport (PHX). Flight FL573 will leave MKE at 8:55 a.m. and arrive at PHX at 11:55 a.m. Flight FL575, which begins operation on December 21, will depart MKE at 7:50 p.m. until January 3, 2011, when it will cease operating until March 13, 2011. Upon resumption of service the flight will depart at 7:55 p.m. This flight will land at PHX at 10:50 a.m. until the temporary cessation of service; after service restarts on March 13, the flight will land at 9:45 p.m. (Arizona does not observe daylight savings time. Flight schedules adjust at Phoenix to become one hour earlier from March 13, 2011.)
In the other direction, from December 13, flight FL572 will push back from PHX at 1:55 p.m. and land at MKE at 6:10 p.m. Flight FL570, which will operate from December 21, 2010 until January 3, 2011, will leave PHX at 8:45 a.m. and arrive at MKE at 1:00 p.m. local time. From March 13 until May 4, 2011, flight FL576 will operate, leaving PHX at 11:59 p.m. and landing at MKE at 5:19 a.m.
Beginning December 21, AirTran is adding two daily round-trips between Akron/Canton in Ohio and Orlando International Airport (MCO). Flight FL716 will depart Akron Canton Regional Airport (CAK) at 1:21 p.m. and reach MCO at 3:46 p.m. local time. Flight FL1407 is timed to leave CAK at 5:53 p.m. and reach MCO a 8:19 p.m. (This flight will not operate on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between January 4, 2011 and February 16, 2011.)
In the other direction, flight FL961 is scheduled to leave MCO at 2:01 p.m. and reach CAK at 4:19 p.m. Flight FL1406 (which also will not operate on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between January 4, 2011 and February 16, 2011) will depart MCO at 4:44 p.m. and land at CAK at 7:02 p.m.
From March 8, 2011, AirTran will also add two more daily round-trips between Milwaukee and Tampa. Flight FL379 will depart MKE at 7:40 a.m. and arrive at TPA at 11:31 a.m. local time, while flight FL377 will leave MKE at 1:54 p.m. and reach TPA at 5:35 p.m. In the other direction, flight FL378 is scheduled to push back from the gate at TPA at 11:40 a.m. and arrive at MKE at 2:00 p.m. local time. Flight FL376 will depart TPA at 6:15 p.m. and reach MKE at 8:04 p.m.
On April 5, 2011, AirTran will add two more daily nonstops between Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) and San Juan (SJU). Flight FL18 is timed to leave BWI at 11:11 a.m. and reach SJU at 3:22 p.m. local time; and flight FL16 is scheduled to push back at BWI at 7:55 p.m. and land at SJU at 11:44 p.m. In the other direction, flight FL17 will leave SJU at 7:00 a.m. and reach BWI at 11:10 a.m., while flight FL19 will depart SJU at 4:22 p.m. and get to BWI at 8:40 p.m.
