Alaska Airlines is launching five-times-weekly, non-stop service between San Diego and Orlando on October 11, 2012.
“We’re thrilled to announce our fourth new market in San Diego in just four months,” says Joe Sprague, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of marketing. “Our customers will not only enjoy non-stop access to one of the ‘Happiest Places on Earth’, but they’ll also benefit from convenient connections to Honolulu and the Pacific Northwest.”

Alaska Airlines boasts a number of specially theme-painted aircraft in its all-Boeing 737 fleet. This one, painted to mark Alaska's commercial cooperation with Disneyland, is called 'The Spirit of Disneyland II'. The airline decided to fit Aircell's Gogo Inflight Internet Wi-Fi equipment on all of its aircraft, despite conducting trials successfully with rival in-flight Wi-Fi service Row 44
Alaska Airlines’ schedule for its San Diego-Orlando service calls for its flights to depart San Diego International Airport (SAN) from October 11 on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 10:35 p.m. and land at Orlando International Airport (MCO) at 6:30 a.m. the following morning, local time.
In the other direction, the Alaska Airlines flight is timed to leave MCO on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from October 12 at 8:05 a.m. and arrive at SAN at 10:40 a.m. local time.
Alaska Airlines previously announced new non-stop daily service from San Diego to Fresno/Yosemite, Monterey and Santa Rosa/Sonoma County, these services starting on June 4 and June 5.
“Just after the exciting announcement of three intra-California routes, Alaska Airlines has done it again,” says Thella Bowens, president and CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. “Orlando was the largest market without non-stop service to San Diego, and today’s news is a welcome bridge between two beloved, sunny cities.”
To promote the new flights, Alaska Airlines is offering introductory one-way fares between San Diego and Orlando from $169, including all government taxes and fees.
Tickets must be purchased by June 14 and can be used for travel through November 14, 2012. Tickets can be bought at www.alaskaair.com, or call 1-800-AlaskaAir (1-800-252-7522 or TTY/TDD line 1-800-392-0228).
Members of Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan can also earn double miles on the carrier’s non-stop flights between San Diego and Orlando through November 15, 2012. To qualify, customers must first register on the airline’s website.
Alaska Airlines will operate the San Diego-Orlando service flights with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, accommodating 16 passengers in first class and 141 in the main cabin.
All flights will offer Alaska’s Northern Bites meal service, which provides passengers in the main cabin with a hot meal for $6 or a cheese and fruit platter for $7.
The flights also will offer Alaska’s digEplayer inflight entertainment system, a handheld video-on-demand device featuring first-run movies, television programs and other entertainment. The digEplayers are complimentary in first class and available for $10 in the main cabin.
