The lessor SMBC Aviation Capital has placed a firm order for 60 Airbus A320neo family, bringing its total purchases from Airbus to nearly 340 aircraft.

60 more Airbus for SMBC Aviation Capital

The lessor SMBC Aviation Capital has a firm order for 60 additional aircraft from the Airbus A320neo family, bringing its total purchases to “nearly 340 aircraft purchased directly from Airbus”, specifies the CP of the European manufacturer. And the nuance is important because the Airbus sales book shows 298 aircraft purchased by SMBC Aviation Capital at the end of October 2023. However, 298 + 60 = 358. A part was therefore purchased by the lessor from a third party.

96 Airbus A320ceo and 202 A320neo

The gradual rise of SMBC Aviation Capital can be seen in particular in the orders placed with Airbus. The lessor has ordered a total of 96 aircraft from the A320ceo family (89 A320/6 A321/1 A319ceo) and has taken a new step with the Airbus A320neo family since its purchases concern 202 units (147 A320neo/55 A321neo) and which will therefore increase to 262 with this new contract.

The growing share of the A321 module

Another interest in SMBC Aviation Capital’s orders: the growing share of the A321 module which goes from 6 to 55 from one generation to the next and which clearly illustrates the changes in market demand and therefore from operators. And it is a safe bet that the 60 examples which have just been ordered include a significant portion of A321neo.
