Spanish airline Air Europa has confirmed that it was the victim of a cyberattack that exposed its customers’ banking details on its online site. The stolen information included credit card numbers, expiration dates and security codes.
The banking entities of the affected customers have activated their protocols for this type of situation and are waiting to receive a list of compromised cards from the payment services company Redsys, to proceed to block payments remotely and inform these customers .
The company contacted customers by email, recommending that they contact their banking entities to cancel the cards. Likewise, it provides for a series of preventive measures to avoid possible fraudulent use of information.

The flaw was revealed after several users shared their experience on social media. The company’s IT team confirmed the cybersecurity issue which affected the payment environment of its website, allowing the fraudulent extraction of banking data.
Air Europa quickly responded to the incident by implementing a security protocol to block the procedure and prevent further data leaks. The company assures that to date, all its systems are operating under “total normality” and that the security of transactions is guaranteed.
