Air Canada recommissioned its first Airbus A321 modernized and equipped with a whole new interior design combined with technologies of top entertainment.
The Canadian airline’s 14 A321s and 8 A320s that remain to be transformed will be modified from this fall until the end of 2025. These modernizations will allow customers to enjoy an enhanced cabin experience on board. these single-aisle aircraft, like that on board the modern Airbus A220 and Boeing 737 MAX, which now make up the majority of Air Canada’s single-aisle fleet.
The new cabin also reduces the overall mass of the A321 aircraft by approximately 240 kilograms, which will reduce fuel consumption by more than 2.4 million liters for the entire fleet once the work is completed. in addition to reducing GHG emissions by 6,256 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year, the equivalent of the electricity required each year by 4,185 Canadian residences.
Main features of the new cabin
-Larger overhead bins: Airbus’ latest Airspace XL concept, the largest overhead bins ever, which will also be installed on Airbus A321XLRs.
-Improved seats: This provision of a standardized product across Air Canada’s single-aisle fleet – both in Business Class and Economy Class – uses new seats designed to optimize passengers’ personal space , improve ergonomics and provide more storage space, which gives customers a more pleasant experience.
-Bluetooth audio connection: Air Canada’s all-new in-flight entertainment system will feature a screen integrated into the seatback, compatible with Bluetooth technology. Customers will be able to connect their personal headphones, whether to watch on-demand videos or live TV or to listen to podcasts or music. This initiative will help reduce the use of single-use headphones, which is in line with our sustainability goals to reduce waste.
-New exterior cameras: Customers can now watch their flight live with the new cutting-edge single-aisle drift and cargo camera system, which will provide access to real-time, high-resolution video from outside the aircraft .
-Continuous spectrum LED ambient lighting: The new cabin lighting system will allow different ambiances to be defined depending on the time of day or phase of the flight.
-Fast and reliable Wi-Fi: Satellite connectivity has been optimized.
-Power options at all seats: All customers will have access to power outlets, as well as USB Type A and C ports.
The new inflight entertainment system is being installed on all A321 and A320 single-aisle aircraft. It will also allow customers to watch live television on BNN, CTV, LCN, RDS, TSN1 and TSN2 channels offered on board all flights operated by these aircraft.
