A new life for Monarch Airlines?

British carrier Monarch Airlines went bankrupt in 2017. But the business has been revived and wants to restart as a holiday airline.

Definitely, we are currently witnessing the return of old brands, as we communicated to you in our article of August 17:

The Air Berlin brand sold for 120,000 €

The announcement of the news

According to the specialized site UK Aviation News, six years after the end, it seems that Monarch could be reborn. In January, a new company with that name was entered on the UK commercial register. Last Saturday, the site announced: “Monarch Airlines and Monarch Holidays were placed in new hands yesterday following the departure of the company’s founder and former majority shareholder. More information will be released shortly.”

The end of the monarch…

It was one of the biggest failures in British aviation history. On October 2, 2017, Monarch Airlines grounded its 36 planes, then the nation’s fifth-largest airline. It was founded in 1967 by the Swiss Mantegazza family, owners of the tour operator Globus Travel Services. After many successful years, the British airline with a fleet of Airbus A320s and A321s from 2010 has increasingly slipped into crisis, also due to competition from low-cost carriers.
