Bangkok-based charter airline Jet Asia Airways is offering its passengers iPads for viewing and listening to in-flight entertainment (IFE).

Jet Asia Airways has named its new in-flight entertainment service ‘Jet Asia Flight Xperience’ (JFx) and launched it this month on its daily charter round-trips (which have the flight numbers JF088 and JF089) between Bangkok and Tokyo’s Narita International Airport. Jet Asia Airways operates this daily charter service on behalf of the Japanese travel agency H.I.S.

Japan Asia Airways unveiled a revised livery for its fleet of Boeing 767-200s before the start of its 2012 summer season. The livery enlarges the carrier’s name across much of the forward fuselage and provides its web address on the rear fuselage

UK-based in-flight entertainment service provider IFE Services Limited is supplying the iPads to Jet Asia Airways, which began operations on September 17, 2011 after being founded in 2009.

According to Jet Asia Airways, adding JFx to its in-flight services is a step towards bridging the gap between the extensive range of IFE offered by legacy carriers and the limited options provided by most charter airlines.

Loaded by IFE Services Limited, Jet Asia Airways’ passenger iPads contain two categories of movies, including two recent Hollywood blockbuster titles and three Hollywood classics, as well as five video games and 10 music CDs.

The airline is distributing the IFE iPads free in its business class cabins and for a fee in its economy class cabins. The choice of entertainment content will be refreshed at regular intervals, according to IFE Services.

Based at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, Jet Asia Airways is a full-service and ACMI wet-lease charter airline which operates a fleet of Boeing 767-200s. In 2011 and 2012, the carrier’s flights included a daily charter service between Bangkok and Tokyo’s Narita International Airport, operated on behalf of Japanese travel agency H.I.S.

The UK company says the Apple iPad tablet makes an ideal portable in-flight entertainment system. The iPad allows airline passengers to experience movies, TV shows and music, read e-magazines and e-books and play the latest games – all enhanced by a high-resolution screen, an excellent sound system and a very long battery life.

Based at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, Jet Asia Airways specializes in block charter, full charter, ad-hoc and wet lease operations.

By August 2012 it had two Boeing 767-200s (one ex-Japan Airlines, one originally a United Airlines aircraft) and a Boeing 767-200ER in service and the carrier plans to add another 767-200ER to its fleet before the end of the year.
