Delta Air Lines has launched an online marketplace to provide members of its SkyMiles frequent flyer program with a new way to redeem miles for hotel rooms, car rentals and merchandise.
The airline teamed up with LoyaltyEdge from American Express, using AmEx’ rewards-program experience and extensive redemption offerings to provide the online SkyMiles Marketplace. SkyMiles members can now redeem miles, or a combination of miles and money, in new ways with more choice and flexibility by visiting marketplace.delta.com.
The marketplace offers more than 6,000 items, including hotel-room and car-rental bookings; appliances and personal electronics; sports and leisure apparel; and luggage, handbags, jewelry and other accessories.
“The SkyMiles Marketplace provides all SkyMiles members with new travel-related redemption opportunities and brand-name retail merchandise,” says Jeff Robertson, vice president – SkyMiles program for Delta Air Lines.
“Based on our long history in the loyalty business, we know that a valuable rewards program builds strong customer loyalty and engagement, resulting in long-term relationships,” says Ralph Andretta, executive vice president, Cardmember Services, American Express. “We’ve created LoyaltyEdge from American Express to team up with key strategic partners to help develop or enhance their loyalty programs.”
Through the relationship, LoyaltyEdge will provide the SkyMiles Marketplace’s e-commerce portal and redemption offerings.
The Delta SkyMiles program offers members multiple mileage-earning opportunities when flying Delta, Delta Shuttle, Delta Connection carriers, Delta AirElite and other SkyTeam airlines. Additional mileage-building opportunities are offered through more than 140 worldwide partners such as the Delta SkyMiles credit card from American Express; Delta SkyMiles check card; participating hotels; car rental companies; restaurants; SkyMilesShopping.com; floral and gift retailers; financial and realty services; and more. The Delta SkyMiles program is now in its 28th year.
