Virgin America has increased its checked-baggage fees for travel starting on or after September 10.

The airline has increased from $15 to $20 its baggage fee for all checked items (excluding the first and second bag for First Class travelers and the first bag for Main Cabin Select and Refundable Fare travelers; Virgin America charges its Main Cabin Select and Refundable Fare travelers for checking a second bag).

Previously, the airline’s fee was $15 for all eligible checked bags. Virgin America’s first-bag weight limit remains at 70 lbs; its weight limit for each subsequent bag up to a 10th bag is 50lbs.

From August 21, any Main Cabin passenger who books a non-refundable ticket for travel starting on or after September 10 will be charged a flat rate of $20 for each checked bag ($20 for a first checked bag and $20 for the second through the tenth checked bag).

Passengers who purchased Virgin America tickets before August 21 or who book and travel before September 10 will be charged per the airline’s previous bag fee rate. Passengers can pay checked bag charges when they check in at airport kiosks, on-line or at any airport ticket counter.
