Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is marking the grand opening of the Shangri-La Hotel, Wenzhou with an opening rate of RMB888 (US$130.26) per night for a deluxe room.
Valid until February 28, 2010, the opening rate includes daily breakfast and marks the completion of all facilities at the hotel, which is one of three Shangri-La properties in China’s southern Zhejiang province.
Located on the southeast coast of China, between the two economic zones of the Pearl River and Yangtze River deltas, Wenzhou is the economic, cultural and communications center of the province. It has been a principal trading port in China since the Tang Dynasty and is also well known for the production of small commodities and crafts, including boxwood carving and embroidery.
The area surrounding Wenzhou is renowned for its natural beauty, which includes the landscapes of the Yadang Mountain and Nanxi River.
Situated in the center of the new-development area of Wenzhou, the hotel is next to the Wenzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center, approximately 3 kilometres from government offices, and a 25-minute drive from Wenzhou Yongqiang Airport.
The 409 guestrooms and suites offer panoramic river and mountain views. Amenities in each room and suite include complimentary broadband Internet access; a 37-inch high-definition television with satellite and cable programmes; an executive writing desk with international multi-plug sockets; and a spacious marble bathroom.
Guestrooms start at 42 square metres, while the presidential suite covers 252 square metres. In addition, 10 serviced apartments with fully equipped kitchens cater to the needs of long-stay guests.
The Horizon Club, occupying floors 21 to 25, offers travellers a higher caliber of personalised service. Special privileges and amenities offered on the concierge level include express check-in and check-out; complimentary daily breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails in the Horizon Club Lounge; and complimentary use of a meeting room for two hours.
The hotel’s restaurants and lounges include O Cafe, serving international cuisine from live theatre kitchens; Shang Palace, serving the Zhejiang province’s Ou cuisine and Cantonese specialities in a main dining room and 17 private dining rooms; and the spacious Lobby Lounge.
Facilities at the hotel also include a fully equipped fitness centre, sauna, floodlit outdoor tennis court, and a 25 metre indoor heated swimming pool.
For events, Shangri-La Hotel, Wenzhou features a 1,700-square-metre, pillarless Grand Ballroom with a ceiling height of 9 meters, capable of accommodating up to 2,000 guests for cocktail receptions or 1,200 for dinner banquets ― the largest in the city, according to Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts. The comprehensive range of meeting and banquet facilities at the hotel also includes 11 function rooms and a Junior Ballroom.
“Shangri-La Hotel, Wenzhou, the city’s first international hotel, opened with select facilities at the beginning of the year to welcome guests from around the world to this thriving business and commercial hub,” says James Xi, general manager of the Shangri-La Hotel, Wenzhou. “We are now fully operational, and alongside our sister Shangri-La hotels in Hangzhou and Ningbo, deliver Shangri-La’s signature hospitality to travellers to the Zhejiang Province.”
