Marriott Hotels & Resorts is planning the first Marquis hotel in Texas and expects it to open in 2015.
At its scheduled opening, the 1,003-room Austin Marriott Marquis will be the largest hotel in the Texas city and is likely to transform Austin’s meeting and convention market.
Owned and operated by White Lodging Services Corporation, the hotel will join five other Marriott Marquis hotels in New York, Atlanta, San Francisco, San Diego and Washington, D.C. (the Washington, D.C. Marriott Marquis is due to open in 2013).
The Austin Marriott Marquis is scheduled to break ground on mid-2012 and will offer 110,000 square feet of flexible meeting space.
During the construction period, the hotel should generate over 550 full-time construction jobs. White Lodging Services and Marriott estimate that, once completed, the Austin Marriott Marquis will have more than 725 permanent employees.
“Our Marquis hotels typically become the centerpiece of the city and the hub for major meetings and conventions from around the world,” says Paul Cahill, senior vice president, brand for Marriott Hotels & Resorts. “This new Marquis will help draw new business to the city of Austin and be an important addition to our global portfolio of more than 500 hotels.”
Located in the heart of downtown Austin, The Austin Marriott Marquis will be just two blocks from the Austin Convention Center. Plans for the hotel’s amenities include multiple food and beverage venues; 374 underground parking spaces, and a 4,500-square-foot fitness center.
As part of Marriott International’s Marriott Hotels & Resorts brand, Marquis properties are 1,000-plus-room, large upscale convention hotels with services and amenities tailored for large groups.
Amenities in Marriott Marquis hotels include lobbies which are social hubs, with flexible seating, day-to-night bars and food service; large, well-equipped fitness centers; concierge lounges; and state-of-the art business centers.
