The groundbreaking trade and investment agreement inked between Libya and the United States on May 20 has resulted in Libya lifting all visa restrictions on U.S. citizens traveling to the country, according to Libya tour operator and travel adventure specialist Libya Expeditions.

“We fully support the reform policies of Seif Islam and the full normalization of U.S.-Libyan relations, including the full lifting of visa restrictions on U.S. citizens for travel to Libya,” says Ryad Sunusi, Libya Expeditions Founder & CEO, who sees the latest pact as a milestone in U.S.-Libyan relations.

“Effective immediately, visas are being approved for U.S. citizens for travel to Libya. We are pleased with the new developments and giving the opportunity to U.S. citizens to return to Libya and explore this magical and scenic land,” says Sunusi.

Bordering the southern shore of the Mediterranean, Libya has earned a cult reputation in recent years among adventure enthusiasts and cultural travelers. Long a crossroads of ancient civilizations, the country is a land of majestic classical ruins and amazing desert landscapes.

Libya is home to five UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Roman ruins of Leptis Magna and Sabratha; the Hellenic ruins of Cyrene; the desert town of Ghadames; and the Rock-Art Sites of the freakish Tadrart Akakus.

The amazing Roman ruins of Leptis Magna represent one of five UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the North African country of Libya, which has eased tourist-visa restrictions for U.S. travelers

The North African country’s largest tour operator, Libya Expeditions says it welcomes cooperation with U.S. travel agencies and operators wishing to add Libya as a destination to their itineraries. The company offers a range of tours within Libya including cultural tours, school trips, and desert expeditions.

Libya recently said it hoped to attract 1.5 million tourists annually by 2012 and to that effect loosened tourist-visa procedures so that visas for most nationalities can be obtained on arrival.

Today, the countries which send the most tourists to Libya are Italy, France, Germany, Spain, and the UK.

Libya Expeditions is a full-service Libya tour operator that provides comprehensive Libya travel services, focusing on escorted Libya cultural, archaeological, and desert adventure tours and holidays; and says it has rapidly become the leading operator of escorted tours to Libya. Libya Expeditions is committed to promoting responsible tourism, supporting the local Libyan economy whilst retaining respect for traditional customs and way of life.
