The JW Marriott Hotel Rio De Janeiro has completed a 9-million-Brazilian-Reais (US$5 million) renovation project spanning the last two years and focusing mainly on bettering the travel experience for the executive guest.

One of the most significant renovations at the hotel is the modernization of its Executive Lounge, now featuring customized services that allow business travelers to accomplish work tasks in comfort. This ninth-floor lounge is exclusive to guests who stay in suites and executive rooms and offers views of the Copacabana Beach.

The Executive Lounge is divided into zones: an ‘Individual Zone’ for those who may prefer a little more privacy for reading or accessing personal laptops; a ‘Technology Zone’ with two work stations, Internet access and a multi-function printer; a ‘Community Table Zone’ for small meetings with connectivity; a ‘Social Business Zone’ for socializing, having drinks or relaxing; and the ‘Wrap and Go Zone’, open 24 hours, seven days a week with amenities available such as fresh fruits, snacks, yogurt, coffee and juice. Other Executive Lounge services include private check-in and check-out and butler service upon request.

“We invested R$1 million in order to best match our hotel services to the needs of our corporate clients. The stellar design and customized services are the main advantages of the Executive Lounge,” says Santiago Sagaz, the JW Marriott Hotel Rio De Janeiro’s general manager. “The waterfront ambience combined with advanced business amenities allow the executive traveler to enjoy a resort experience while simultaneously accomplishing work duties.”

Renovation of the JW Marriott Hotel Rio de Janeiro has been a three-phase process. In 2008, the first phase focused on replacing carpets within guestroom and social areas with a contemporary, anti-allergenic fabric, following Marriott’s worldwide guidelines. Other enhancements include new curtains, new bathtub grab bars and new vanity mirrors. The taps and shower heads were replaced by ecologically efficient, water-saving models. Additionally, the hotel’s Fitness Center received new cardio equipment.

The second renovation phase was accomplished in 2009 and involved installing 42-inch LCD televisions, iPod docks and new wall lighting in all guestrooms. Work spaces were improved with ergonomic desk chairs. The hotel’s Presidential Suite was also redecorated to align with the latest Marriott hospitality concepts. Furthermore, The Terraneo complex’s restaurants and bar were refurbished with soft, modern furnishings to reflect Rio de Janeiro’s style and flair.

Improvements in 2010 include a new pantry and a complete refurbishment of the Mirante Copacabana (the hotel’s rooftop area). The Fitness Center will receive new strength equipment, and new surveillance cameras are being installed in all social areas. Guests will also be able to obtain wireless Internet access throughout the hotel.

“Our efforts are aimed at providing the very best hotel experience in Rio de Janeiro. Our guests visit JW Marriott Hotel Rio de Janeiro for our excellent services aligned with Marriott’s world class standards,” says Santiago Sagaz. “In the 5-star hospitality industry, a significant investment is required in order to maintain that high level of standards. We are committed to constantly making the necessary investments in renovations, modernization and comprehensive customer service training.”
