WestJet’s 2014 summer schedule will see the Canadian carrier launch its first-ever service to New York JFK, as well as increasing frequency on 20 existing routes and offering year-round service on five previously seasonal routes.

Sister regional carrier WestJet Encore will also launch a variety of new routes. These include its first route from Toronto and a sizable service expansion at Fort McMurray in Alberta, which will also see a new WestJet service to the United States.

WestJet will launch daily Calgary-New York JFK service on April 27, along with a new daily service between Calgary and Prince George, B.C.

On June 24, WestJet will launch twice-weekly service between Fort McMurray and Las Vegas.

WestJet Encore will also launch new routes linking Fort McMurray with Kelowna and Vancouver in British Columbia, as part of WestJet’s largest single increase of flights to Fort McMurray since it first began serving the Alberta city.

The Fort McMurray expansion includes conversion of daily Toronto non-stop flights to year-round service, and frequency increases to both Calgary and Edmonton.

Meanwhile, following its successful launch in Western Canada, WestJet Encore will move east to start service in Toronto with service to Thunder Bay. WestJet Encore will also offer service between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg.

As we previously reported, the summer of 2014 will see WestJet’s first foray into the transatlantic market with seasonal direct flights (via St. John’s in Newfoundland) between Toronto and Dublin, beginning on June 15.

Other WestJet summer-schedule highlights include service increases to 15 popular sunspot destinations including Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale and Phoenix in the U.S., in addition to existing Caribbean and Mexican destinations.

WestJet’s Calgary-New York JFK schedule will see its daily flight depart Calgary International Airport (IATA code YYC) at 10:35 a.m. daily from April 27 and arrive at New York JFK (JFK) at 5:00 p.m. local time. The return flight will push back from the gate at JFK at 5:55 p.m. and reach YYC at 9:10 p.m. local time.

The airline’s new Fort McMurray-Las Vegas route will leave Fort McMurray Airport (YMM) at 8:50 p.m. twice a week from June 24 and get to Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS) at 11:21 p.m. local time. In the other direction, WestJet’s flight will depart LAS at 3:23 p.m. twice a week from June 24 and touch down at YMM at 7:55 p.m.

WestJet’s daily Calgary-Prince George service will push back from the gate at YYC at 10:00 p.m. daily from April 27 and will reach Prince George Airport (YXS) at 10:27 p.m. local time. In the other direction, the flight will depart YXS at 6:00 a.m. daily from April 27 and get to YYC at 8:27 a.m. local time.

The schedule for WestJet Encore’s new Fort McMurray-Vancouver service calls for its flight to leave YMM daily at 11:00 a.m. from May 12 and arrive at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) at 12:30 p.m. local time. In the other direction, the flight will depart YVR daily at 1:30 p.m. from May 12 and touch down at YMM at 4:53 p.m. local time.

WestJet Encore’s schedule for its new Fort McMurray-Kelowna route will see its flight begin taxiing at YMM daily at 10:25 p.m. from May 12 and landing at Kelowna International Airport (YLW) at 11:27 p.m. local time. The return flight will depart YLW at 7:30 a.m. daily from May 12 and will reach YMM at 10:23 a.m. local time.
