US Airways is launching weekly service between New York LaGuardia and Phoenix and daily service linking its Charlotte, North Carolina hub with Salt Lake City.

Beginning March 10, 2012, US Airways will offer its first-ever flight beyond the 1,500 mile limit set by the perimeter rule at New York LaGuardia Airport, offering Saturday service to the airline’s Phoenix hub.

On March 4, 2012 the carrier will begin operating daily, year-round service between Salt Lake City and Charlotte, US Airways’ largest hub.

US Airways operates well over 200 Airbus A320-family aircraft. This is one of the airline's A320s

US Airways will operate the daily Charlotte-Salt Lake City service with 150-seat Airbus A320s and the Phoenix-LaGuardia route with 124-seat Airbus A319s.

“We are pleased to offer our customers non-stop flights from New York’s LaGuardia Airport to Phoenix with the Saturday-only exception to the LaGuardia perimeter rule,” says Howard Kass, US Airways’ vice president of legal and government affairs. “Customers in the New York area now have yet another opportunity to explore the West, with convenient connections to more than 28 destinations.”

On March 10, US Airways’ schedule for its new LaGuardia-Phoenix service will see flight US917 leaving New York LaGuardia (LGA) at 10:00 a.m. and arriving at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) at 1:40 p.m. local time. From March 17, the flight will arrive at PHX at 12:40 p.m. local time because Arizona does not follow Daylight Saving Time, whereas New York State does.

In the other direction, flight US918 is timed to depart PHX at 4:05 p.m. and land at LGA at 10:45 p.m. local time. From March 17, the flight will leave PHX at 3:05 p.m., still making its arrival at LGA at 10:45 p.m. local time, again because of Arizona’s and New York’s different Daylight Saving Time policies.

US Airways’ schedule for the new daily flight between Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) calls for flight US449 to push back from the gate at CLT at 8:30 p.m. and land at SLC at 10:45 p.m. local time. In the other direction, flight US448 begins taxiing at 11:59 p.m., in order to arrive at CLT at 5:54 a.m. the next morning, local time.
