US Airways will launch daily non-stop service to São Paulo, Brazil’s largest city, from its largest hub at Charlotte in North Carolina on May 5, 2013.
São Paulo is US Airways’ second destination in South America and the route complements the airline’s existing Charlotte-Rio de Janeiro service.
Tempe, Arizona-headquartered US Airways will operate its service to São Paulo with Boeing 767-200ER widebodies seating 18 people in Envoy, US Airways’ international business class, and 186 in the main cabin.
“US Airways’ new service to South America’s most important business market strengthens our international network and provides consumers throughout the United States and Brazil with a convenient new travel option,” says Andrew Nocella, US Airways’ senior vice president, marketing and planning.
“Brazil is important for US Airways, which has served Rio de Janeiro since 2009,” adds Nocella. “Thanks to the support of the U.S. Department of Transportation and key stakeholders, we are now able to expand our presence to the largest market in the country.”
“With the addition of US Airways’ new route to São Paulo, Charlotte now boasts two flights to the world’s sixth-largest economy,” says Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx. “Through their ongoing expansion of overseas service, our airport and US Airways continue to cement Charlotte’s reputation as an international city where businesses want to locate and people want to live.”
The São Paulo flight adds to US Airways’ growing international operation at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (IATA code CLT). Last month, the airline announced new service from CLT to London Heathrow Airport and earlier in the year increased its frequency of service to Frankfurt, Germany for the summer travel season.
Customers may book their flights to São Paulo at www.usairways.com, by calling US Airways reservations at 1-800-428-4322 or through travel agents.
US Airways’ flight schedule for the route will see flight US802 leaving CLT at 5:50 p.m. daily from May 5 and landing at São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) at 4:30 a.m. the next morning, local time. The time zone in which São Paulo is located is one hour ahead of U.S. Eastern time, the time zone applying to Charlotte.
In the other direction, flight US803 is timed to depart GRU at 8:25 a.m. from May 6 and touch down at CLT at 5:25 p.m. local time.
