Vision Airlines’ newly published winter flight schedule and changes to its fall flight schedule will see the low-cost carrier dropping service to five cities, but at the same time it will add several new routes to Florida destinations.

Some of the route changes will take place as early as August 19, according to Vision Airlines.

The carrier will continue to serve the Destin/Fort Walton Beach area with flights from Atlanta, Louisville, Tunica (which is in the Greater Memphis area), Orlando Sanford, and St. Petersburg/Clearwater throughout the fall and winter. Little Rock will continue to have service to Destin/Fort Walton Beach until November 2.

However, Vision Airlines will discontinue service to Lafayette, Shreveport, Chattanooga, Asheville, and Knoxville. But the carrier will add new routes to its winter schedule flights from Louisville to Punta Gorda/Fort Myers and Orlando Sanford; from Little Rock to Orlando Sanford; and from St. Louis to Punta Gorda/Fort Myers.

Vision Airlines is growing its fleet of Boeing 737s with more 737-300s and 737-400s (like the 737-400 seen in this photograph) to help with the expansion of its scheduled-service network to Northwest Florida Regional Airport, as well additional schedules to several other Florida airports and to Grand Bahama Island

“The fall and winter schedules shift as consumers typically flock to Southern Florida destinations or to international hot spots like Grand Bahama Island,” says David Meers, Vision Airlines’ senior vice president and chief operating officer. “Based upon travel trends, we have decided to make these changes sooner than anticipated and focus on markets where demand for travel will be stronger.”

Adds Meers: “We expect to have a robust schedule of flights to Northwest Florida Regional Airport resume again on April 1, 2012. We are pleased to continue to grow our business in Florida by offering additional flights from Louisville and St. Louis. Non-stop flights to popular winter destinations such as Orlando/Sanford, Fort Lauderdale, and Punta Gorda/Fort Myers have been among the most requested routes from these airports.”

Vision Airlines says any passenger affected by the route changes will be given the option of a full refund or offered the opportunity to travel from a nearby city served by the carrier. The company says it will continue to build on these core cities and plans to offer additional flights to them in the future.

One example is the company’s June 29, 2011 announcement that it would introduce flights to Grand Bahama Island from Raleigh/Durham, Richmond, Baltimore/Washington International, Fort Lauderdale, and Louisville. Vacation packages and flights to Grand Bahama Island start on November 3 and are available for booking at or by calling 1-877-FLY-A-JET.
