Singapore Airlines Cargo has launched its first scheduled freighter service to South America, the flight operating to Campinas near Sao Paulo in Brazil.

The airline launched the weekly Boeing 747-400F freighter service from Singapore Changi International Airport to Viracopos-Campinas International Airport in Brazil’s Sao Paulo state on August 16.

SIA Cargo’s new flight to Brazil operates via Hong Kong, Anchorage and Dallas Fort Worth. The return trip to Singapore operates via Dallas Fort Worth, Brussels and Sharjah.

The flagship of Singapore Airlines Cargo’s fleet is the Boeing 747-400F freighter, which SIA has dubbed the ‘Mega Ark’ and which can carry 110 tonnes of cargo. In this photograph, Boeing 747-400F 9V-SFJ of Singapore Airlines Cargo makes its final approach to London Heathrow Airport

According to Singapore Airlines, this new freighter service complements the cargo capacity available on the carrier’s three-times-weekly passenger flights between Singapore and Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport, via Barcelona.

“This new freighter service demonstrates our confidence in the growth potential of the Brazilian market, and extends our network coverage to over 70 cities in more than 30 countries,” said Tan Tiow Kor, senior vice president sales and marketing for Singapore Airlines Cargo.

“Brazil is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and its major imports include machinery, electrical and transport equipment, chemicals, cotton, automotive parts and accessories,” added Tan. “Its principal exports include transport and transmission equipment, heavy machinery, generators, transformers, footwear and food products. Our services provide convenient links between Brazil and major global markets.”
