Etihad Airways will introduce the Airbus A380 on its Abu Dhabi-New York JFK route on December 1, 2015.
On that day, Abu Dhabi International Airport-based Etihad Airways will begin using an Airbus A380 to operate one of its two daily Abu Dhabi-New York JFK round-trips.
New York JFK will be the first U.S. destination to which Etihad Airways will operate its A380 superjumbos, according to James Hogan, the carrier’s president and chief executive officer.
Etihad Airways will continue to offer twice-daily service between New York JFK and Abu Dhabi, with the addition of the A380 allowing the airline to match capacity with increased demand.
In 2014, Etihad Airways’ Business and Economy Class load factors on the Abu Dhabi-New York route exceeded 80 per cent, according to the carrier.
Its two daily flights from New York JFK offer passengers traveling on the route access at Abu Dhabi International Airport to 709 weekly connections to 34 markets throughout the Persian Gulf, Middle East, Indian subcontinent, Africa and South East Asia. With equity partner Jet Airways, Etihad Airways serves 15 destinations in India from Abu Dhabi.
Each of the 10 A380s Etihad Airways has ordered will be equipped with ‘The Residence by Etihad’, a private three-room suite in the sky.
Measuring 125 square feet in area, The Residence by Etihad features a private living room, separate en-suite shower room, bedroom with a double bed, and a Savoy Academy-trained butler to look after the needs of its passengers.
The Residence features a 32-inch LCD monitor in the living room and a 24-inch monitor in the bedroom. Located on the forward upper deck of the A380, The Residence by Etihad is available for single or double occupancy.
Each of Etihad’s A380s also has nine ‘First Apartments’, with cabins located on each side of a single aisle. Each First Apartment offers a 74 per cent increase in space over the airline’s current First Class suites, a 24-inch swiveling LCD TV monitor and a personal vanity unit, according to Etihad Airways.
A fully equipped shower room is available for exclusive use by Etihad’s SA380 First Class passengers.
Each Etihad A380 upper deck has 70 Business Studios, arranged in a 1-2-1 row configuration, providing passengers with a 20 per cent increase in personal space, direct aisle access and a fully flat bed of up to 80.5” in length.
The Lobby, available to passengers in First and Business Class, is a serviced lounge and bar area located between the two cabins, featuring leather sofas, refreshments and a large TV with a USB connection.
Each Etihad A380 also has 415 Economy Smart Seats on its main deck. Each of these seats has an ergonomic ‘fixed wing’ headrest, lumbar support and an 11.1-inch personal TV monitor.
The airline’s schedule for its Abu Dhabi-New York JFK service will see flight EY103 depart Abu Dhabi International Airport (IATA code AUH) daily at 2:55 a.m. from December 1 and land at New York JFK (JFK) at 8:40 a.m., local time.
In the other direction, flight EY102 will leave JFK at 3:00 p.m. daily from December 1 and arrive at AUH at 12:30 p.m. the following day, local time.

The airline will continue to operate its other daily round-trip between Abu Dhabi and New York JFK with Boeing 777-300ER equipment.
Etihad Airways’ first A380 entered into service on December 27, 2014 on the Abu Dhabi-London Heathrow Airport route. The airline will begin A380 service between Abu Dhabi and Sydney on June 1 and will take delivery of four A380s in 2015.
