Alaska Airlines is launching daily service to three more cities from Salt Lake City in June, marking the latest in a series of route expansions.
Operating on Alaska Airlines’ behalf, sister regional airline Horizon Air will begin flying non-stop from Salt Lake City to Boise in Idaho and Las Vegas on June 16, using Bombardier Q400 turboprop regional airliners.
Alaska Airlines itself will begin service between Salt Lake City and San Francisco on June 18, using Boeing 737NG jets.
Introductory sale fares on the new flights will be available for purchase on December 24, at www.alaskaair.com.
“These new flights are in addition to our previously announced service between Salt Lake City and Portland, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose, which also start next June,” says Joe Sprague, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of marketing. “These additional flights will complement Alaska’s strong network on the West Coast.”
Alaska Airlines will fly one daily round-trip between Salt Lake City and San Francisco, while Horizon Air will operate a daily round-trip between Salt Lake City and Boise and two daily round-trips between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.
Its flights from Salt Lake City to San Francisco will allow travelers same-day connections to Alaska Airlines’ non-stop flights to Mexican resort destinations Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, according to the carrier.
Alaska Airlines is offering its Mileage Plan members double mileage points on the new routes, which count toward status in the carrier’s MVP, MVP Gold and MVP Gold 75K elite-level programs. The threshold for Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan members to earn elite-level MVP status is 20,000 miles, 5,000 fewer miles than most other airline frequent flier programs, according to Alaska Airlines.
To qualify for double elite-qualifying miles, travelers must be members of Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan and register at www.alaskaair.com by June 15, 2014. Customers who have not yet joined Mileage Plan can enroll at no cost online.
