AirTran Airways is launching new flights to Florida tourist destination Fort Myers from four points in its U.S. domestic network, as well as additional service to Las Vegas from Indianapolis in time for spring travel.

The airline says it already offers flights from more cities to Fort Myers’ South West Florida International Airport (RSW) than any other carrier and says its latest expansion will further establish AirTran Airways as the carrier of choice in Southwest Florida.


“Fort Myers is one of the most requested destinations in our route network,” says Kevin Healy, AirTran Airways’ senior vice president of marketing and planning. “From the pristine beaches of Sanibel and Captiva Islands to the world-class golfing and fishing, not to mention baseball spring training, Southwest Florida is one of the most popular sun and fun destinations in America.”

AirTran Airways has a total of 117 Boeing 737-700s in service and on order and numerically the 737-700 will be the most important type in AirTran's fleet for the foreseeable future. (The airline also operates 88 Boeing 717s but has indicated it may start disposing of some older 717s in the next few years.) AirTran operates its 737-700s in two-class configuration, with 12 premium-class seats and 125 economy-class seats

Beginning in the spring of 2011, AirTran Airways will offer flights to Fort Myers from Bloomington/Normal, Illinois; Buffalo Niagara International Airport, New York; Moline/Quad Cities, Illinois; and Rochester, New York.

Beginning March 9, 2011, AirTran’s schedule between Fort Myers and Bloomington/Normal’s Central Illinois Regional Airport (BMI) calls for flight FL1637 to depart RSW at 12:38 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and reach BMI at 2:34 p.m. On Sundays, flight FL1635 will leave RSW at 10:28 a.m. and land at BMI at 12:34 p.m. (All tmes are local.)

In the other direction, flight FL1638 is timed to leave BMI at 3:14 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and to arrive at RSW at 7:01 p.m. On Sundays, flight FL1636 will depart BMI at 1:04 p.m. in order to make a 4:51 p.m. arrival at RSW.

From March 8, 2011, AirTran’s schedule between Fort Myers and Buffalo Niagara will see flight FL1408 leaving RSW at 12:38 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays and landing at BUF at 3:33 p.m. Return flight FL1409 will then depart BUF at 4:08 p.m. and reach RSW at 7:13 p.m.

Also from March 8, 2011, AirTran’s service from Fort Myers to Moline/Quad City International Airport (MLI) calls for flight FL1640 to leave RSW at 8:50 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays and arrive at MLI at 10:59 a.m. local time. In the other direction, flight FL1641 is timed to depart MLI at 11:34 a.m. and reach RSW at 3:30 p.m.

Fron November 20, 2010, AirTran will operate flight FL1110 from Rochester, New York’s Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) to Fort Myers on Saturdays, the flight leaving ROC at 8:00 a.m. and landing at RSW at 11:09 a.m. In the other direction, flight FL1112 is timed to leave RSW at 10:05 a.m. and reach ROC at 1:05 p.m.

Then, from March 9, 2011, AirTrans will supplement its Fort Myers-Rochester service with three more flights a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Flight FL1115 is timed to leave RSW at 8:45 a.m. and arrive at ROC at 11:45 a.m. In the other direction, flight FL1114 is scheduled to depart ROC at 12:20 p.m. and reach RSW at 3:30 p.m.

AirTran Airways is also adding five-times weekly service between Indianapolis and Las Vegas, from March 10, 2011.On Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, flight FL1248 will push back at Indianapolis International Airport (IND) at 8:55 p.m. and arrive at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS) at 10:05 p.m. local time. In the ohter direction, flight FL1249 is timed to depart LAS at 10:55 p.m. and land at IND at 5:30 a..m. the following day.
