American Airlines has launched a new codeshare agreement with St. Croix-based Seaborne Airlines, which provides American’s customers with access to six destinations in the Caribbean from San Juan in Puerto Rico.

Christiansted, St. Croix-based Seaborne Airlines operates a fleet of de Havilland Canada Twin Otters on routes among the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and between the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Some of Seaborne Airlines’ Twin Otters have been converted to Vistaliners (like the aircraft pictured here) and operate from conventional runways, while others are fitted with floats and operate as seaplanes from the seaplane bases at Christiansted on St. Croix and Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas
The codeshare agreement allows American Airlines to place its ‘AA’ flight code on Seaborne’s flights linking San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport (SJU) with Dominica (DOM), Fort-de-France in Martinique (FDF), Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe (PTP), Tortola in the British Virgin Islands (EIS), the Puerto Rican island of Vieques (VQS) and Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands (VIJ).
Customers can book travel on the codeshare flights from June 24 for travel beginning June 27.
Members of the American Airlines AAdvantage frequent-flyer program will be eligible to earn miles on the codeshare flights operated by Seaborne Airlines. American’s customers will be able to redeem miles on Seaborne flights later this year.
Seaborne Airlines has been providing inter-island service to the Virgin Islands and surrounding Caribbean destinations for more than 20 years. Its non-stop flight from San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport provides customers with easy access to some of the Caribbean’s top destinations.
