The new flights will operate twice weekly between Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, with service on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Allegiant Air is beginning nonstop service between Youngstown-Warren, Ohio, and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport on November 17.

The company will introduce the new service to the Northeastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania region with fares from $64.99 one-way plus government taxes and fees and Allegiant Air’s almost-unavoidable “convenience” fees. The one-way introductory fare must be purchased by October 12 and is valid for travel through March 8, 2011 . Introductory fares are not available on all flights.

After the introductory-fare period, regular one-way fares on the route start from $79.99 plus taxes and fees.  Reservations can be made at www.allegiant.com or by calling the company at 702-505-8888.

“We are thrilled to provide the Mahoning Valley community with nonstop scheduled service to the Tampa Bay – St. Petersburg, Fla. region from the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport,” says Dan Dickten, director of aviation for the Western Reserve Port Authority. “St. Petersburg is among the top five destinations requested by the community.  We look forward to successful flights to the Tampa Bay area and working with Allegiant in the future.”

The new flights will operate twice weekly between Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport (YNG) and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (PIE), with service on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Flights will depart YNG at 11:05 a.m. and arrive at PIE at 1:30 p.m. Flights leaving PIE will depart at 8 a.m. and land at YNG at 10:25 a.m. All flight times are local.

Allegiant Air  will use 150-seat McDonnell Douglas MD-80s on the route. The company also offers nonstop service from Youngstown-Warren to Orlando, Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

With an average 361 days of sunshine each year, the St. Petersburg-Clearwater area is considered the most popular vacation destination on Florida’s West Coast.  The area was named among the top beaches in the United States and has received the “Blue Wave Award” from the Clean Beaches Council.  In addition to pristine beaches, visitors are within minutes of shopping, golf courses, resorts and dining options.

The article mentions what times the plane arrives and departs at both destinations, but, what days does it fly? ( or do you just show up at the appropriate time ans see if there is a plane that day?)

My daughter has a reservation from Youngstown to St.Petersburg, Florida, for Wednesday, December 22nd. How do we get the ticket ? The reservation has been made for quite some time. Also, when should we arrive at the Youngstown Airport and what are the flight times departure and arrival for Florida.

    Hi SueEllen

We are just a travel news website and you’ll need to contact the airline to check this but nowadays all tickets (pretty well everywhere in the world) are “e-tickets” which are sent by e-mail, or which you can print out merely with your reservation record number when you go on the airline’s website. There are no paper tickets any more, particularly in the United States.

Your daughter should have a reservation confirmation number or code from when she made the booking. She should be able to use that at the airport to obtain her boarding pass from the check-in desk, as long as she presents her ID when checking in. However, Transportation Security Administration regulations require her to provide full identity details (such as passport number or driving license number if she has one, her full name including middle name(s) and exact date of birth) in advance of flying and she needs to provide these as soon as possible, if she hasn’t done so already.

We recommend that she checks with the airline regarding her ticket and providing ID details. She can do so via Allegiant’s reservations number (702-505-8888, but Allegiant might try to charge a fee for assisting her with her inquiry) or via its website (which shouldn’t cost her anything) to make sure she has provided all the required ID details in time.

As for departure and arrive times, we wrote this when we first published our news story on the new Allegiant Air service betweeen Youngstown and St. Petersburg/Clearwater:

“The new flights will operate twice weekly between Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport (YNG) and St. All flight times are local.”

We think both cities are in the same time zone and that would make the flight time 2 hours 25 minutes in each direction.

As for when to get to the airport, this is a very busy time of year for flying but neither of these airports are major airports and if all is going well operationally they shouldn’t have huge security lines. She should check with the airport as to the time recommended for getting there in order to make sure she gets on the flight but we always try to get to the airport a minimum of two hours in advance for domestic flights just to make sure we get there in good time to clear check-in and security, particularly if we’re traveling with bags we’re going to check.

We hope your daughter has a smooth flight and we wish you a very enjoyable festive season.

According to Allegiant Air’s schedule, available at http://www.allegiant.com, at present the airline flies to Tri-Cities Tennessee/Virginia from two Florida airports, Orlando Sanford International Airport and St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport. So in your case, because your email address indicates you probably live in the Tampa Bay area, it looks like Allegiant Air does indeed fly where you want to go.
