Air Canada serves more destinations in the United States from YUL than any other carrier, accounting for about 40 per cent of total scheduled carriers’ U.S. departures and seats at YUL. Together with Jazz, it already operates non-stop service to 16 destinations in the U.S. its new Houston service from November 30 will increase the number to 17. Air Canada flies non-stop to all the most popular U.S. destinations from YUL: New York LaGuardia (LGA); Los Angeles (LAX); San Francisco (SFO); Chicago (ORD); Las Vegas (LAS); Orlando (MCO); and Fort Lauderdale (FLL). In addition, Air Canada is the only carrier at YUL to fly non-stop to Boston (BOS); Denver (DEN); Tampa (TPA); Hartford, Connecticut (BDL); and Washington D.C.’s Reagan National Airport (DCA).
At YUL, a new baggage drop-off service located just behind the check-in area is now available for passengers travelling to the U.S. It allows customers to drop their checked bags off before proceeding to security clearance and U.S. Customs. International and domestic passengers connecting to U.S. flights no longer need to pick up their bags before passing through security and U.S. Customs.
YUL’s new transborder facility, whose new departures hall opened on August 19, uses a new baggage system, whose greatly improved capability has allowed baggage-handling capacity to more than triple from 400 items per hour to 1,400 items per hour. A new baggage reconciliation system features new bag-scanning and boarding-pass-scanning technology. The new scanning technology tracks the location of passengers and their bags, improving operational efficiency.
Additionally, the airport’s U.S. departures facility has nearly doubled in size from 9,300 square meters to 18,100 square meters. Security checkpoints have doubled from six to 12 and check-in positions have grown from 28 to 48, with Air Canada’s positions increasing from 12 to 14. U.S. The number of Customs counters has risen from 20 to 29. A duty free shop, a MEXX outlet and a Houston’s Bar and Grill are among the many new shops and restaurants. Also, a new 272-room Marriott Hotel connected directly to the airport terminal provides visitors to YUL with more choice in accommodations, spa and meeting room facilities.
