Ukrainian Aviation Group Alliance member Dniproavia has placed an order for 10 Embraer 190s and has taken options on another five.

Dniproavia will add the aircraft to 25 ERJ-145LRs it will have in service this year, to become the largest operator of Embraer regional jets in Eastern Europe. Dniproavia will operate the Embraer 190s in cooperation with another alliance member, AeroSvit. The Embraer 190s will be financed under a lease structure to be arranged by a third party, according to Embraer.

Embraer puts the total value of the deal at list price at $400 million in January 2010 dollars and the manufacturer says the list-price value of the order could reach $600 million if all options are confirmed. Embraer says it will add this value to its current firm-order backlog.

“There is no greater sense of satisfaction for a manufacturer, like Embraer, than to expand its customer base and welcome a new partner into the E-Jets family, especially in Eastern Europe,” says Paulo César de Souza e Silva, Embraer’s executive vice president, airline market. “We are very proud to be part of the solid growth of the Ukrainian Aviation Group. We already have a successful partnership with Dniproavia, [whose] ERJ 145 fleet will reach 25 planes this year.”

Dniproavia’s Embraer 190s will be configured in a dual-class layout, seating up to 104 passengers. The first two aircraft are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2011. All 10 aircraft will serve the Ukrainian Aviation Group Alliance’s domestic and international destinations, mainly from the Alliance’s hub at Kiev Boryspil International Airport (KBP).

“The strong brand awareness, economics and performance in combination with high level of cabin comfort for our passengers are the key drivers in the selection of the state-of-the-art Embraer 190 jets. Operating the E-190 alongside our narrowbody aircraft will allow us to substantially expand our domestic and intra-European network,” says Vadim Shvitay, executive secretary of the Ukrainian Aviation Group.

The Ukrainian Aviation Group is a strategic alliance founded at the beginning of 2007 between two Ukrainian airlines, Donbassaero and AeroSvit. (For more information about these airlines, visit www.donbass.aero and www.aerosvit.com.) In October 2010, Dniproavia officially joined the alliance. For more information about Dniproavia, visit www.dniproavia.com.

One of the main goals of the alliance is to increase the competitiveness of its members in international markets and, as a consequence, improve Ukraine’s national air transport industry. In order to become more competitive, the three airlines are cooperating on operational and commercial activities, one aim being to achieve an optimal fleet mix. The companies are developing international connections at Kiev’s Boryspil International Airport (KBP) to maximize the synergies between them.

Embraer ended 2010 with firm orders for 947 E-Jets and options for 720 more and this order is additional to that number.
