The first A380 for Malaysia Airlines (MAS) took off for its maiden flight on October 20.
Malaysia Airlines’ first Airbus A380 performed its first flight from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport in France after Airbus had completed final assembly and system tests at its final assembly facility on the Toulouse site.
After a successful flight of five hours, the aircraft returned to Toulouse to be prepared for its next journey to the Airbus facilities in Hamburg, Germany for cabin installation and painting.
Powered by four Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines, the aircraft is the first of six A380s ordered by Malaysia Airlines.
The A380 is scheduled for delivery to MAS in the second quarter of 2012. Malaysia Airlines will be the 8th airline to operate the A380.
Other carriers to have taken delivery of Airbus A380s are Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qantas Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Korean Air and China Southern Airlines.
Bu the end of September 2011, 57 A380s had been delivered to the seven airlines.
