Colombian carrier Avianca has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Bogotá-based Avianca, which is part of the AviancaTaca group and is a member of the Star Alliance, has a total of 15 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners on order and holds options on five more.

“The addition of the first Boeing 787-8 to Avianca’s fleet is a milestone for commercial aviation and for our airline, which strives to bring the most advanced aviation technology to our passengers,” says Fabio Villegas Ramirez, Avianca’s president and CEO.

Each of Avianca’s Boeing 787-8s will carry 28 passengers in business class and 222 in economy class.

One of the oldest airlines in the world, with 95 years in operation, Avianca flies to 24 destinations in Colombia and 98 destinations in South America, North America and Europe.

To date, 58 customers have ordered 1,055 Boeing 787s, making the Dreamliner the fastest-selling twin-aisle aircraft in Boeing history.
